About

Why an international platform for circular economy?

The question is legitimate as there are already directories of good practices in the fields of recycling, industrial and territorial ecology or environmental innovation… The goal of these tools is generally the same: to facilitate innovation and transition towards sustainable models by promoting “pioneering initiatives”. However, the multiplicity and redundancy of existing platforms does not facilitate their appropriation. Rather specialized, they do not allow actors to interact beyond sectoral barriers, thereby limiting the sharing of knowledge and the creation of multi-actor projects.

The Institute of the Circular Economy and CIRIDD, with the support of ADEME and the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, wanted to create a common place dedicated to all stakeholders in the circular economy.

Completely open access, the platform allows project leaders to exchange their experiences and access all existing tools on the subject. It is aimed at everyone (citizens, entrepreneurs, communities, large businesses, etc.) and facilitates networking through collaborative spaces.

The EconomieCirculaire.org network in a few figures:

  • More than 660,000 users present on the circular economy platforms (in 2023);
  • More than 1,600,000 pages read on the circular economy platforms (in 2023);
  • Nearly 2,000 circular economy initiatives mapped at national and international level (in 2023);
  • More than 60 national and international events included in the calendar (in 2023);
  • More than 2,000 organizations mapped nationally and internationally (in 2023).

A web ecosystem serving the circular economy

Linked to territorial platforms, Genie.ch in the Canton of Geneva, RECITA.org in Nouvelle Aquitaine, ECLAIRA in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, CollECtif in the Grand Est region, NECI for Normandy, GrandParisCirculaire.org for the metropolitan area of Grand Paris, Québec circular for the Quebec, Cyclop in Occitanie, Reseau-Preci.org in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, BretagneCirculaire.org for the Brittany region and other platforms to come. The EconomieCirculaire.org platform thus constitutes an entry portal to numerouslocal variations.

This ecosystem helps to energize territories through multi-actor cooperation and the optimization of local resources (human, natural and technological), cooperating and active. It thus acts as a real social network serving projects and multi-actor cooperation in the territories.

General presentation of the platform

The collaborative platform aims to organize knowledge on the circular economy and to mobilize stakeholders at the territorial, national and international levels. It is aimed at all professionals able to implement, encourage or support projects on this theme (communities, businesses, developers, consultants, experts, associations, etc.).

The fields of action are numerous and varied, such as industrial and territorial ecology, eco-design, reuse and reuse, the functional economy, and are aimed at all sectors and types of resources.

The platform constitutes a real social network of actors in an international dimension, while articulating the resources, studies, feedback and themes of the circular economy in order to initiate its implementation in territories and companies.

It develops thanks to mobilization and synergy:

- Territorial initiatives carried out in France in the circular economy, and more broadly on an international scale
- Experts and players in circular economy
- Technological or socio-economic innovations deemed strategic for the circular economy and their diffusion
- Training courses which may be indexed in the form of a module on the platform
- Support and support systems for businesses and organizations
- Communities of actors, practitioners and experts at project levels

These different phases of development require the coordination of existing activities, the continuous engagement of new initiatives or skills holders, and the launch of additional activities in a collective process.
