Description

Florange Écologie Industrielle et Insertion (ou Fe2i) came into being at the initiative of the integration company VALO’ and the cooperative of consultants ECOTA Conseil in 2014. In a local context marked by the steel and social crisis, the project aims both to redeploy VALO's activities and to respond to the challenges of the region (waste to be recycled, long-term unemployed to be trained, brownfields to be converted, etc.). In this context, the project involved redeploying an integration scheme for people in the region who had been unemployed for a long time, and creating industrial ecology systems aiming to make better use of waste. Florange e2i is a group of companies, social and cooperative economy organizations, local authorities, research laboratories and a university who have decided to commit to improving the attractiveness of Val de Fensch area and, more widely, northern Moselle. By networking the various people involved in economic and social issues in the area, Florange e2i impels and develops local “industrial symbiosis” after an initial industrial ecology diagnosis. The government selected the project supported by Florange e2i and recognized it as a regional centre of economic cooperation (Pôle territorial de coopération économique - PTCE) on January 10, 2014. In this cooperative group, the partners involved are people and organizations that mainly develop around different industrial and territorial ecology projects, especially: industrialists, companies working in the waste sector, research laboratories, universities, social and cooperative economy structures and local authorities. The special feature of Florange e2i's initiative is that it is based around new technologies and innovation, mainly developing R&D projects.
