100 million worn out mobile phones in the wild in France!

A report from the Senate dated September 29 points to failings in the collection and recycling of worn out mobile phones in France and provides 27 recommendations to address the problem.

According to the senators, only 15% of worn out mobile phones are collected today. Given that 24 million mobile phones are put on the market each year, they estimate the volume sitting in drawers (or in the wild) at 100 million. This represents a very substantial source of raw materials, and therefore a source of employment.

The report puts forward the initiative of Ateliers du Bocage, who were among the first to offer solutions for collecting, sorting, recycling and reusing mobile phones. It therefore calls for an increase in collection and more strict control over the obligation for distributors to take back worn out mobile phones.
