23 projects selected for the 2016 European Environment Calls for Proposals

The European Commission has selected 23 projects as a result of the calls for proposals relating to "A greener economy", "The circular economy" and "Smart cities and communities", issued by the Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME) with a closing date of September 2016. Funding totalling €184 million will be granted for the purpose of furthering the "Horizon 2020's Societal Challenge "Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials".

The chosen projects relate to the following themes:

  • Water and systemic approaches in the context of the circular economy (10 projects),
  • Climate services (6 projects),
  • Nature-based solutions in cities (4 projects),
  • Raw materials (2 projects)
  • Cultural heritage (1 project).

The list of award winners is available via the French portal of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. These projects were selected from a total of 56 submissions, and French organisations were involved in 12 of them.

New projects will be announced in 2017, arising out of calls for proposals issued at the start of the year.
